Place Group surpasses fifty successful Childcare Sufficiency Assessments

Place Group has successfully completed 52 Childcare Sufficiency Assessments (CSA) for local authorities across England and Wales, and with a rapidly increasing client base.

Under the Childcare Act 2006, local councils are required to analyse local childcare supply and demand, assessing the number of private, voluntary, and independent settings, population changes and employment patterns to ensure there is enough affordable and high-quality provision.

Place Group’s childcare sufficiency team submitted their first CSA in 2008 and have been market leaders in this area for nearly two decades.

This summer, we have been contracted by six local authorities to undertake school-age-focused childcare sufficiency projects and relevant needs assessments, and since 2023 we have completed an additional 14 CSAs, including:

  • Royal Borough of Greenwich
  • London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham
  • Thurrock Council
  • City of York Council
  • Bedford Borough Council
  • Cheshire West and Chester Council
  • Central Bedfordshire Council
  • Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council
  • Worcestershire County Council
  • Six local authorities in Wales

Supplementary sufficiency directives issued by DfE last year required a focus on supply of, and demand for school age and wraparound places which can support children and young people aged 3-19 years with SEND and EHCPs.
