Don’t let the delay to the Procurement Act 2023 slow you down
On Thursday 12th September, the Cabinet Office announced a delay to the go-live date for the Procurement Act 2023 from 28th October 2024 to 24th February 2025.
Despite the delay, it is essential that contracting authorities continue preparation for the new Act ahead of the new go-live date, to ensure you can best capitalise on the flexibilities and benefits the new Act provides.
The 3 key next steps to prepare for the new regime are:
1. Preparing your procurement strategy and contracts register to plan your upcoming procurement timelines and strategic priorities
This will ensure you have the necessary support and resource available and have aligned your procurements with your strategic priorities, social value and Net Zero aims.
Our contracts register template is a great starting point to begin recording this information and put in place best practice. Contact us if you would like a copy.
2. Updating your internal procurement policies, processes, and templates
To maximise benefit from the new Act, as well as ensure you are fully compliant and reduce the risk of supplier challenges.
It is vital to update any existing templates, processes and polices, both to comply with the new Act as well as enable you to take advantage of the new Competitive Flexible procedure’s less rigid approach to tendering.
3. Training staff on their responsibilities and best practices under the new Act
There is a wide range of training available for procurers on the new Act, aimed at a whole host of public sector organisations.
Identifying the key players in your procurement process and what level of training is required for each area will be vital to ensuring you hit the ground running once the Act goes live.
